Holy Orders
According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, holy orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time. Only baptized men may receive the sacrament of holy orders, which can be received only once in each of its three degrees: deacon, priest and bishop. All three of these degrees are conferred by the sacramental act called “ordination,” that is, by the sacrament of holy orders.
